Inner Healing and Deliverance Heals Sadness, Sorrow, Hopelessness and Melancholy
It can be easy to feel overwhelmed by sadness and sorrows in life, especially when it stems from other people mistreating you. One of the toughest things to learn is how to overcome sadness and the Bible is the best “self-help” guide you will find.
There are many people in the world today who are struggling with internal pain, emotional hurts that seem impossible to heal. The loss of a loved one, the break up of a relationship or even losing material wealth. Many people struggle with it and most of us can name someone close to us who is struggling or hurting inside. Just pause for a moment and think, it may even be you that is struggling and you are merely covering up deep sadness inside.
Anyone who is hurting inside can easily blame, or at least try and blame someone or something for their situation. When pain is involved human nature suggests that we must get payback or revenge on one side or just crawl into a hole of misery on the other that seems to have no way out. “Do not take revenge on others or continue to hate them but love your neighbors as you love yourself. I am the Lord” (Leviticus 19:18) states and while this says do not take revenge is fails to cover the opposite side of crawling into a hole of sadness. This is where inner healing comes in.
David writes about sadness and sorrow throughout the book of Psalms. "How long must I take counsel in my soul and have sorrow in my heart all the day? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?" (Psalm 13:2). David struggled with his own sadness and knew that the Lord was his strength through his weakness.
But I have trusted in Your mercy; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. (Psalm 13:2 NKJV)
At the root of Davids sadness was the emotion of being AFRAID (1 Samuel 23:17). This is where the enemy gained legal ground to torment David in his mind, body and soul. That emotion of being afraid created a soul wound through trauma in David life. Since David didn’t have the name of Jesus to heal his soul wound of being afraid our Heavenly Father sent David’s good friend Jonathan to console him with the assurance of the Lord’s favor and strength to overcome his sadness.
16 And Saul’s son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and helped him find strength in God. 17 “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “My father Saul will not lay a hand on you. You will be king over Israel, and I will be second to you. Even my father Saul knows this.” 18 The two of them made a covenant before the Lord. Then Jonathan went home, but David remained at Horesh. (1 Samuel 23:16-18 NKJV)
This reminds me of a story about a friend who was going through a difficult time in his life. He told me “It is very easy to be sad and feel a little helpless believing that no one understands. I have learnt it, I came out of a 10-year marriage that I never saw ending so abruptly. I thrive on love and loving someone and because my love suddenly called things off and vanished, I was in pain and very upset. I wanted to find love again and I tried a few times and failed. I didn’t know it at the time but when my divorce happened, I was injured inside and my happiness on the outside was actually hiding brokenness and sadness on the inside that others could see and feel.” My heart went out to him!
As he continued to share from his heart he told me “I entered a state of depression and felt very sad, very alone and really believed no one understood me. It was at this point that I re-found my faith. I won’t forget it, I was invited to church by a neighbor and the message was about Jesus sleeping while the storm raged. I could relate, my sadness, my inner brokenness was a storm and one I had created. I needed to heal to find my happiness again.” I can feel the Holy Spirit all over this message because this is the beginning for many of you to be set free from sadness in Jesus name.
Our sadness is an outward sign of internal soul wounds usually created by trauma at any age in our lives it can be from friends, family and even enemies that we come in contact with. The trauma usually associated with soul wounds are accidents, physical abuse, verbal abuse, sexual abuse, physical pain, or any emotional pain that we can’t handle or cope with at that moment.
God has amazing plans for you!
God has amazing plans for you (Jeremiah 29:11) and the pain you feel now is not what God has in store for you. Finding the strength to pray in your painful and sad place is where miracles begin. God can touch you through prayer and His word soon manifests itself when you trust him.
God’s word teaches us to trust him and in doing so we find an inner peace, not healed but the starting point of perfect healing. It took almost 8 years for God to work his healing inside my friend, I learned patience and am still having my patience tested. Above all I learned to love and trust God and love myself by accepting who I am in Christ. Sadness still shows its face however now I am able to deal with it and take care of it right away and have Jesus come and heal those wounds. I’ve learned to take care of it right away so that the enemy doesn’t have any legal rights to attack my mind, body and soul.
The Lord will rescue his servants; no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned. (Psalm 34:22 NIV)
Identifying you soul wounds as a Christian will help you walk in victory over every situation and circumstance. Our Heavenly Father gave us the bible as a “self-help” guide to help us overcome. Just like any "self-help" guide you have to read and understand how to use it.
